Dartmouth High Cheerleading Athlete Injury Policy
DHS Message Board & Calendar

1. Any athlete receiving an injury due to cheerleading or at practice in which the athlete must be removed from participation by a parent, coach and or physician for an extended period of time, the athlete must submit a doctors note to the coaches BEFORE being permitted to return to activity. If the athlete is receiving physiotherapy as well,  a note will be required from BOTH family doctor AND physiotherapist. This note must specifically state that the athlete is 100% recovered and ready to return to full activity before stunting may occur.

2. All injuries/ recoveries will be discussed openly with all team members so all members are aware of how the team will be effected.

3. If injuries are of a serious nature and matters can not agreed upon between coaches, athlete and parents the injury will be turned over to the school and a full report will be given to the Principal and Athletic Director for the decision regarding return to activity to be determined by the school.

4. Depending on the type and severity of injury the athlete must still participate in warm-up and all dancing and cheering.

5. Athletes MUST be at every practice unless a phone call is made prior to practice to coaches. This means the Attendance Policy is STILL in effect.

6. If braces are required by a doctor braces MUST be worn at all times at practice.

7. Depending on length of time away from activity if athlete is on "Competitive Team" athlete MAY or MAY NOT be permitted to return to previous position, at the discretion of the coaches. The athletes previous "position/job" may be changed for the duration of the year or specified period of time to another "position/job" if the coaches feel it is in the athletes or teams best interest.

8. Mental readiness will be at the coaches discretion. As a physically able athlete may not mentally be ready to return to activity.
